Children from all over Chester and Ellesmere Port have been singing with a smile this week.

Catholic primary school pupils from St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s in Hoole, St Theresa’s, Blacon, St Clare’s, Lache, St Luke’s, Frodsham, St Saviour’s, Ellesmere Port and St Winefride’s in Neston came together at the Catholic High School for a Smile and Sing project.

Organised by Rachael Borman, of St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s, the projects was related to the children’s PSHE (personal, social and health education) work and more than 300 children performed for their families.

Songs included Lean on Me and I Won’t Give Up and a special rendition of Sing, The Primary Gangnam Style .

Rachael said: “The children and staff were amazing and had worked so hard and sang brilliantly. It was a lovely opportunity for the children to socialise and make new friends with children from different schools and come together making music!

“St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s have been organising Big Sing projects since 2010 when they won the Platinum Sing Up Award, and along with the other primary schools recognise the importance that music and singing can bring to children emotionally, intellectually and socially.”

This singing project was for seven to nine-year-olds. Similar projects are run every term focusing on different year groups giving every child the opportunity to sing with peers from other schools.
