BUILDERS have moved in to begin constructing a 77-bedroomed Travelodge at Cheshire Oaks.

Only last month the delayed plan to build the hotel was granted more time by planners.

The development, which includes two restaurants or bars on the ground floor, originally had permission in 2008 at Prezzo, 9 Coliseum Way, The Coliseum.

Applicant Legal and General Leisure successfully secured more time to continue with the development just a fortnight ago.

Hull-based PDR Construction started work on the five-storey building on Monday.

The £3m scheme involves the design and construction of a five-storey building consisting of a four-storey, 77-bed Travelodge Hotel and two ground-floor retail units.

The project – the final piece in the overall redevelopment of the Cheshire Oaks Coliseum Leisure Park – is due for completion between April-June 2012.

PDR Construction has worked on Travelodge hotels in Wakefield, Hull and Birmingham.

The developer has been appointed by Leisure Fund Ltd Partnership to a team which includes architect The Harris Partnership from Wakefield, project manager AVID Property Consultants LLP from Chester, quantity surveyor Todd & Ledson LLP from Liverpool, building services engineer Elementa Consulting Ltd from Surrey and structural engineer Ward Cole Consulting Engineers from Lincoln.
