An employee from SPAR Upton who has gone the extra mile to support her community has been recognised at the Business in the Community Responsible Business Awards 2014.

Laura Horsefield, assistant manager at Blakemore Retail SPAR, Upton, picked up the title of Employee Volunteer of the Year Award 2014 at a gala dinner at Aintree Racecourse.

Laura has been recognised due to her outstanding commitment to her community of Upton over the last 12 months across a range of projects including primary school study tours, regeneration projects and fundraising.

Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Awards are designed for business by business. Rigorously assessed by business peers from all sectors, the awards encourage and celebrate businesses that are helping secure a fairer society and a more sustainable future for us all.

Blakemore retail regional manager Owen Davies said: “I am sincerely pleased and honoured for Laura on winning and receiving this fantastic recognition for her work in the community around her store at Upton.

“Laura is an exceptional young lady and role model for everyone who works for the company and by doing a little extra work, communicating with schools, old people’s homes, churches in and around her store, what a difference one person can make to a community in which we trade.

“Well done Laura, I’m genuinely proud of you and thank you.”
