SCOTTISHPOWER is working in partnership with West Cheshire College to offer young people the chance to gain a vocational qualification and industry experience through its Engineering Foundation Programme.

The college has launched the full-time Level 2 diploma in electrical and electronic engineering in response to addressing the future skills shortage within the power sector.

According to the analysis of the Skills Dialogue report, 11% of businesses in engineering and manufacturing have a skills gap, which can lead to delays in launching new products and loss of business to competitors.

Liz McIntosh, assistant manager of engineering at West Cheshire College, said: “There is a massive demand for people with skills in engineering so this course is vital to help reduce that gap within the industry. We have worked with ScottishPower in the past and I am delighted we have the opportunity to work with them again.”

The programme is aimed at school-leavers and those who wish to develop their interest in electrical engineering with a view to securing an apprenticeship.
