INDEPENDENT businesses will get professional advice from the manager of Cheshire Oaks’ Ralph Lauren shop.

Today (Wednesday), shoppers will also be urged to buy at least one item from a local, independent shop for Independents Day 2012.

The campaign, organised by Skillsmart Retail and the National Skills Academy for Retail, champions local retailers.

Independent stores are being encouraged to put on events or offer something different on the day.

Cllr Herbert Manley, executive member for prosperity, said: “I am delighted to support the campaign as it is the independent retailers which make up the vast majority of our retail businesses across Cheshire West. They make a very important contribution to the local economy as well as to the identity and distinctiveness of our towns and villages.

“Charisma, the Cheshire West and Chester residents’ card, offers businesses the opportunity to promote special offers to their local communities. This is free to join and is ideal for independent retailers.”

A range of special training sessions are being offered across the borough throughout July, Independent Retailer Month. The sessions are free but must be booked in advance

On Wednesday, July 18, Graham Jones, manager of the outlet village’s Polo Ralph Lauren store, will give traders an insight into the strategy behind a national brand with tricks and tips of the trade that can be applied to smaller businesses, plus an overview of the training and skills offer from Cheshire Oaks Retail Academy (Cora), supporting retailers.

Registration: 5.30pm (tea/coffee) for 6pm start until 7.30pm at the Cora Training Room, (above M&S Outlet) Cheshire Oaks, Kinsey Road, Ellesmere Port, CH65 9JJ.
