A CHESTER joinery firm has taken the term DIY to the limit.

When Parry Joinery decided that they required larger premises and couldn’t find the ideal building they decided to build their own purpose built factory.

Pochin Construction were recruited to build the 11,200 sq ft building, off Sealand Road, which was completed in November 2012.

The building has been built to meet high environmental standards with a wide range of sustainability features including water saving devices, high insulation and bio mass heating.

The new extraction and waste collection system allows the wood waste produced in the production process to be turned into ‘briquettes’ which are then used to heat the factory. The briquettes are also for sale to the general public and suitable for wood burning stoves and chimineas.

Rob Parry, originally from Saughall, started the business in 1986 to produce bespoke joinery to the construction and domestic market. Since this time the company has continued to expand manufacturing all styles of timber windows, doors, door sets, staircases, gates, machined mouldings, reception counters, fitted furniture, almost anything customers require including matching to original mouldings and reproducing items from architectural drawings or photographs.

The company is FSC/PEFC accredited signifying that they have the ability to prove that timber products are derived from sustainable sources.

Mr Parry said: “This is an exciting time for the company and to build a purpose built factory was a goal I have been aiming towards for many years. To work in such a fabulous up to date building is not only good for the staff but allows us to operate in a far more efficient manner whilst making a difference to reduce our environmental impact.

“The new factory is big enough to cope with increasing our range of joinery products and allow the company to expand creating further employment opportunities in the joinery and machine areas of the business, adding to its 20 strong local workforce.”
