The chairman of Muir Group Housing Association’s board has retired after four years in the role.

David Booth, 73, joined Muir’s Board in 2000, becoming its chair in 2011.

During his 20 years with the Chester-based association, David has seen Muir grow and become more than just a landlord. Muir now manages more than 5,000 properties, consistently meets its regulatory assessments and continues to deliver good quality, affordable homes for people across the country.

David retires with the best wishes of the board and its thanks for his impressive achievements. He will be replaced as chair by fellow board member David Gardiner, a Muir board member since 2013 with great experience working with regulatory bodies.

David said he feels very privileged to have had worked alongside some dynamic and forward-thinking people during his time at Muir.

He said at Muir’s recent Special General Meeting and Annual General Meeting held at Chester Racecourse on September 17, 2015.

“I have enjoyed my time at Muir immensely and it was a real wrench to go. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the years, and I leave in the knowledge that Muir is in safe hands thanks to the strong leadership and governance we have in place.

“Our incoming chair, David Gardiner, has a wealth of experience and he will ensure that Muir continues to redefine excellence across the business. He will undoubtedly have tremendous support from all who work there, and I wish him and Muir every success for the future.”

Prior to retiring from business in 1995, David was managing director of a number of companies in the printing and paper and packaging industries.

He is a former non-executive director of the Cheshire West Primary Care Trust, and committee member of several voluntary/community/ partnership organisations in Chester.

David is also the former chairman of the Chester Transport Group and deputy chairman of Chester City Transport Ltd.

Muir’s chief executive, Catherine Dixson, said: “David has played a pivotal role in Muir’s many successes during his time in office. His professionalism and leadership qualities have been a real asset to the association, and he has been a pleasure to work with.

“Everyone at Muir would like to thank David for his hard work and commitment during his time in office, and wish him and his family all the very best for the future.”

David Gardiner, the new chairman of Muir added: “I am very excited to be to become Chairman and to continue the fine work of David. Like other housing associations across the country, Muir faces some significant challenges over the next few years. But the board has set a clear strategy to ensure we not only continue to offer excellent service, but help our residents prosper as well.”
