THE FIRST apprentice taken on by Chester Train Maintenance Depot in Hoole celebrated the completion of his course and the start of his full time job.
Jason George, 22, from Handbridge, has spent the past four years completing an apprenticeship at the depot.
The depot maintains trains for Arriva Trains Wales, and Jason is their first apprentice to go through the course.
His first year was spent at college completing a course funded by the North West Training Council. He then spent the next three years in various parts of the business including in the store, the technical office and on the shop floor, undertaking train maintenance work. During his apprenticeship Jason also obtained an NVQ and an ONC, to add to his growing list of qualifications.
Martin Frodsham, training manager at the depot, said: “We are delighted to have our first apprentice complete the course. We are really pleased with Jason. The team he is working with count him as a valuable member of the team, and are very pleased he will be continuing to work with them.
“We have two apprentices and will soon be looking to take on another.”
