A year of award success for a Handbridge butchers could be capped off in style.

Ernest W Edge and Son is one of three finalists for the North of England Butcher’s Shop of the Year.

This follows on from accolades at the Great Taste Awards and Northern Independent Retail Awards in 2015.

Bruce Edge said: “This is the big one.

“I’m immensely proud of the shop and the team and there are some amazing butchers who have not made it.

“We’ve not really entered competitions like this before but we made the choice to really start to test ourselves.”

Should Edge and Son win the North of England category, they would also be in the running to be named the best butcher’s in the UK.

All the winner’s from across the country will be announced at a ceremony on November 12.

The popular shop has been running in Handbridge for 78 years.

Bruce Edge, whose grandfather Ernest founded the butcher's, now runs the shop alongside Paul Bowley, Phillip Rowland and Steven Kennedy.

In August they were awarded a two-star ‘outstanding’ rating for their Molasses Dry Cure Cheshire Streaky Bacon and a one-star ‘simply delicious’ rating for their Stuffed Tenderloin of Pork at the Great Taste Awards 2015.
