Another new business has opened its doors in Ellesmere Port town centre.

Laura Harris, a former drama teacher at West Cheshire College and local author of crime thriller Splintered, will offer creative writing courses, actor training and representation, filming-making and performance and production based skills from Chalice Media Studios at 8 Cambridge Road.

The company will also provide self-publication packages, guidance for budding writers and opportunities to take part in live performances and theatrical productions with industry professionals.

“We’re so grateful to all the people who’ve been a part of our journey so far and helped us to make Chalice Media Studios a reality,” said Laura, director of the studio.

She hopes the transformed unit will be utilised for a range of creative purposes.

“We plan to start running our actor training and creative writing classes from these premises and will continue to produce new writing, and re-invent classic works to be performed in and around Ellesmere Port.

“Our latest full-scale creative endeavour is a roaring 1920s adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, set against a backdrop of the prohibition of alcohol, bootlegging and rise gangsters such as Al Capone.

“The current location of the performance is top secret but the dates will be August 28, 29 and 30.”

Chalice Media performed two stage plays at the National Waterways Museum as part of the Ellesmere Port Arts Festival 2014 after successfully receiving funding from the Arts Council England.

Located just off Whitby Road, the studio is owned by the Wirral Methodist Housing Association and had been empty for a long period.

It will host an official opening event on Saturday and residents are invited to go along and find out more about the new business.

An open-house meet and greet has been planned for the day with special events running in the evening as well.

Laura added: “I’d encourage anyone and everyone to come and drop in if you can and see what we’re all about.”

Heather Pugh, director of Stanley Staff and a member of the Town Centre Improvement Advisory Body, said: “It is great to see yet another property in Ellesmere Port being utilised for the talented people in the town and the surrounding area.

“They will have somewhere to go to enhance their creative skills and help them with their future career prospects. I am sure all the business in Cambridge Road wish Laura all the very best of luck in the future plans for the studios.”
