A £500,000 fund to help people living with a serious injury or work-related illness is inviting applications for its annual round of grants.
Health, rehabilitation and research groups in the field of serious brain and spinal injury or occupational diseases, such as those linked with asbestos, are eligible to bid for financial support from Slater and Gordon’s Health Projects and Research Fund.
The Chester-based law firm has committed to handing out £500,000 in grants to deserving not-for-profit and charitable causes by 2020.
Since the fund was set up in 2014, more than £150,000 has been awarded to organisations including the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and the Spinal Injuries Association.
London’s Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability also received funding to help develop a new musical therapy programme for patients, and University Hospital North Staffordshire and Keele University researchers were given a boost in their work on a breath test to diagnose lung cancer.
Slater and Gordon’s managing director Andrew Grech said: “Many of our clients live with the consequences of a catastrophic injury and we see first-hand the struggles they face.
“Asbestos-related disease and cancers contracted in the workplace also cause misery for thousands of people and their families in the UK every year.
“We have already seen many outstanding projects benefit from our fund including leading charities, educational establishments and health institutions.
“These projects have the potential to make a real difference to people’s lives by striving to improve treatment and care and that’s something about which we feel very passionate.”
The closing date for applications to the health projects and research is Friday, December 16.
