A new social group in Chester is aiming to strengthen its team to help a range of local community causes for free.

Good for Nothing’s (GFN) Chester branch has been set up with the aim of gathering skilful people to work with social enterprises, charities, film-makers and web developers, sharing their time and skills to help each other at no cost.

And now, as the talent-filled group prepares to host its first ‘24-hour hack’ in Chester, GFN Chester branch founder Alice Elliott is on the lookout for coders, developers and designers to come on board.

Their mission during the event will be to work with a range of ventures.

Alice explained: “Good For Nothing is about reaching out to support ventures and charities that are struggling and could use that little bit of help.

“It has been shown from other GFN groups that the ventures who take part get a lot out of it. Their business does not have to use what we suggest, but many of them do.”

Alice added several people had already expressed an interest, but they needed to sign up on the GFN Chester event webpage to confirm their attendance.

The 24-hour hack event will take place at the base of Chester firm Webmedia 360, which has donated its city centre office for the purposes of the event for free, at Merchant’s House, Crook Street.

It will begin at 7pm on Friday, May 16, where GFN members will be introduced to the various ventures taking part.

The following day, at 9am, the GFN team will work with the ventures on inspiring and troubleshooting any creative, design and technical issues they may have.

Throughout the day, refreshments will be provided.
