DOT COM multi-millionaire Simon Nixon is considering moving abroad – because the British weather has been so ‘bloody awful’!

The press had speculated that Chester-based Mr Nixon, founder of price comparison website moneysupermarket.com, was leaving for the tax haven of Jersey to protect his millions.

But Mr Nixon, who has an estimated £536m personal fortune, said there was ‘no decision’ as yet.

The 45-year-old explained: “I have been looking. For a long time I have wanted to spend more time in a climate where the weather is better. The whole point of having financial independence is to enhance your standard of living.

“I intend to spend more time overseas in future but I’ve not decided where that will be. I will always keep my roots in Chester. I would never sell my house in Chester – it’s where my family and friends are.

“Don’t get me wrong, if I could combine a higher standard of living with lower tax that would be an advantage.”

These days Mr Nixon, who remains deputy chairman of Ewloe-based Moneysupermarket, still puts in the hours Monday to Friday but no longer works weekends.

“I have got a good balance between work and home,” said the entrepreneur, who is spending a lot of time in Silicon Valley, California, after investing in venture capital companies.

“I’m looking for the next Google or the next Facebook. I find that interesting.”

The businessman, who has a long-term girlfriend but does not talk about his private life, is also busy with his luxury holiday let business called SimonEscapes.

Mr Nixon has a love of travel because he gets bored being in the same place. In the winter he enjoys spending time in ski resorts but by contrast also adores the warmth of the Caribbean.

At the moment he is developing a beach front site in Barbados, where he intends to sell one villa but retain the other for himself.

“Ideally I would like to spend my winters in Barbados,” said Mr Nixon.
