CHESTER employees Jeff Moran and Enid Williams from Allied Bakeries Chester (manufacturers of Kingsmill), retired in style by sailing down the River Dee with more than 100 friends and colleagues as they celebrated nearly 100 years combined service to the bakery industry.

Jeff, 67, originally from Liverpool, has serviced the Chester area since 1959, starting out as a delivery driver before becoming the area manager in 1987 and then the head of vans sales in 2000. Enid who started as a junior office administrator in 1965 is now considered the ‘mother’ of delivery operations at the site, with many of the drivers now known as ‘Enid’s Boys’.

Both members of staff have been committed to providing the best delivery service and leave a lasting legacy with customers. Steve Vaughan, owner of Handbridge Services, is one such customer who spoke fondly of the pair:

“I wish both Jeff and Enid all the best with their retirements following so many years service for our store. We have worked closely together for many years and their dedication to delivery excellence has helped me grow my business.”

Reflecting on her career, Enid mentions that retirement is just the beginning: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my years with Allied Bakeries, particularly the close relationships I’ve formed with so many customers. I am now looking forward to spending more time dancing, travelling and developing my next career in counselling.”

General manager Carl Hampson said: “Everybody in the business would like to wish Jeff and Enid all the best in two very well earned retirements. Both will be greatly missed in their dedication to delivering the best service to our customers. Seeing more than 100 people turn out to show their appreciation shows how popular they were at the bakery and among customers.”
