A third B&M store is headed for the city after the discount retailer confirmed it will move into the outgoing Tesco Home Plus store on Chester Retail Park.

A spokesperson has confirmed to The Chronicle that work will begin on the new store after Tesco closes on March 15.

The supermarket giant announced in January that the Chester Home Plus store was among one of 43 ‘unprofitable’ shops they were shutting down, five years since it first opened.

However, current Tesco staff will all be offered interviews to work in the new store which will be the third of its type in the area, joining the existing branches in the Forum Shopping Centre and Caldy Valley Retail Park.

In a statement, a B&M spokesperson said: “We are delighted to announce today that B&M Retail will be opening on the Greyhound Retail Park in Chester; occupying the former Tesco Home Plus in the city.

“A comprehensive internal and external refurbishment programme will be completed once the existing unit is empty and the new store is expected to open by summer this year.

“At B&M, we always believe that our colleagues make the store what it is and we will be looking to recruit in the very near future. Interviews will also be available to all ex-Tesco staff from the Tesco Home Plus store.

“When applications open, all jobs will be advertised via the B&M website (www.bmstores/careers).”

The news comes four months since Asda opened a 24-hour superstore on the Greyhound Retail Park and less than a year after Dunelm doubled in size.
