John Moorhouse, accounts senior from Ellis and Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, was invited by West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce to offer advice and tips to the chamber’s newly formed Start up Club.

The event, hosted  at the Chester Broughton Shopping Park Regus Express Business Centre, was organised by West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce to support businesses in their first two years of trading in the local area.

John gave a brief overview of his job as an accounts senior and then identified a few examples of issues that newly-formed and start up businesses come up against on a day to day basis. This led to various questions from the attendees on general accountancy matters.

John said: “It was a great opportunity to speak to the new businesses about the day to day issues they may come across when starting out. It is really important to ensure that best practice is in place wherever you can in all areas of a new business, but more so on the accounting side. This then forms a great platform for growth as the business expands”

He added: “No question is too small or too insignificant to ask and I am pleased to encourage new businesses to ask for help on matters which they are not sure of.”

The businesses also benefited from advice from Dave Savage from Mako Creative Solutions Ltd and Colin Freeman from Freeman Jones Solicitors.

The chamber Start Up Group, formed by Debbie Stokes, membership director, earlier this year, is an exclusive event for chamber members who are in their first two years of business. The group provides support, advice and an opportunity to meet other people in the same situation.

Debbie Stokes said: “We had another fantastic meeting and it was great to have such a good turn out of enthusiastic members who wanted to come together and share their knowledge and experiences. We would like to thank John Moorhouse from Ellis and Co, Colin Freeman from Freeman Jones Solicitors and Dave Savage from Mako Creative Solutions Ltd for their advice and guidance, which was very much appreciated by all who attended, and to the team at Regus who once again generously hosted the event.”
