Christmas came early for pupils of a Chester primary school when they were told they would be performing live on national TV.

Acresfield Primary School in Upton was selected to perform a nativity scene live on TV on ITV’s This Morning , presented by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

And on Monday, the lucky 15 youngsters were told they had been chosen to travel down to London on Monday, December 16 to take part in the show the following morning.

Headteacher Mike Dixon said: “We are delighted that Acresfield has been selected to perform a nativity scene on This Morning .

“We were nominated by one of our parents.”

The school asked all children interested in taking part to put their names forward and the selection took place on Monday to ensure there was a good representation of the school at the event in terms of boy/girl ratios as well as ages.

Mr Dixon stressed to all the children and their parents that a full commitment was required from those who took part.

He added: “We do not have much time for the children to learn the script, so we need to move quickly and require complete commitment from those children wishing to take part, especially as it is an extremely busy time of year, when the children will be learning other scripts too.

“We are all looking forward to this exciting event and will try to arrange for the rest of the school to see the programme in school.”
