There were plenty of smiles and excitement at Sir John Deane’s College as students celebrated a bumper crop of A Level results today (Thursday, August 14).
More than 600 upper sixth students received their results at the campus, in Monarch Drive, Northwich, at 8.30am this morning – achieving an incredible 98% pass rate.
SJD principal Kerry Kirkwood said: “Today has been a day to share in moments of joy and excitement and we are so proud of our students’ achievements.
“The college atmosphere has been electric and it was wonderful to welcome so many parents, governors and teachers to share in the joy and exhilaration. Our sense of college community truly is our strength.
“Many of our students have received the grades they need to progress to their first choice university and everyone should be congratulated on their hard work, determination and achievements today.”
SJD also congratulated students who achieved grades to gain prestigious places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities – particularly underlining the college’s excellence in science.
Successful Oxbridge students included: Nicholas Bushnell-Wye 4As (law, Cambridge), Harriet Loney 3A*s (medicine, Oxford), William Bell 3A*s (computer science, Oxford), and Luke Cockerton 3A*s (engineering, Cambridge).
Other individual student achievements included: Anthony Flaherty, 4A*s and Sarah Edwards, Freya Curtis and Lauren Green 3A*s.
Around a quarter of SJD’s results were at A or A* this year. The vast majority of this summer’s leavers will now be going on to universities across the country, with others going straight into employment or ‘taking a year out’ before progressing into higher education.
