After announcing she was leaving, Hollyoaks' funny and ditzy Carmel McQueen said her goodbyes, as actress Gemma Merna's final scene aired.

Whilst their spirits seemed high when they were celebrating their cousin Porsche's wedding on a private party train, the McQueen family were soon left in turmoil after the horrific accident which killed Carmel McQueen.

Fans and celebrities took to Twitter to share their thoughts on her End Of The Line performance as the tributes poured in for Carmel McQueen, with many claiming that Gemma should be awarded for her exit from the show.

Fellow cast mate and close friend Jennifer Metcalfe tweeted, "My beaut @gemmamerna as flipping killed it! I love u gem xxx", and their on-screen cousin Jorgie Porter joined in saying, "Great to hear u were all balling ur eyes out tweeples as were we all gunna miss @gemmamerna with all my heart".

Whilst Nikki Sanderson said, "I'm am so proud the @Hollyoaks team 4the amazing #EndOfTheLine episodes!! Especially 2the lovely @gemmamerna 4her phenomenal exit scenes x".

Alex Fletcher also tweeted, "Hollyoaks Channel4 OMG the train crash best I've seen yet hats off to everyone involved especially to @ gemmamerna 1st class gem xx xx

And Stephanie Waring told her followers, "In floods of tears watching @Hollyoaks @gemmamerna you are amazing... What an exit! The McQueens did good!!! Xx".

Actress Sheree Murphy also had her say on Carmel's exit admitting she'd been in tears she tweeted, "Wow.. Just watched @Hollyoaks well done all involved.. Especially @gemmamerna #AmazingEp #InTears", and Liverpool FC goalkeeper Brad Jones' fiancée Dani Lawrence said, "Brilliant job @gemmamerna #proud such sad scenes xxx".

The Only Way Is Essex's Sam Faiers also supported her friend and said, "Just watched @ gemmamerna last ever scene in @ Hollyoaks well done it was amazing .. U will be missed on the show xxx".

Gemma's fans told they'd cried throughout her scene, with one saying "Crying more for Carmel's death then some real deaths that have happened Love ya so much Carmel and will miss u carmelmcqueen".

The actress tweeted her thanks to the Channel 4 show, telling her followers "Well what an amazing last episode for #CarmelMcqueen thank you so much to @Hollyoaks @Channel4 for the past 8 years & such an amazing cast & crew will miss you guys millions thank you for everything love you @ Hollyoaks @ Channel4 # EndOfTheLine # RIPCarmelMcqueen".
