Throw the chunky boots and thick socks to the back of the shoe cupboard. It's that time of year when your feet have no place to hide and pedicures are top of the to-do list.

Spring has arrived and the best place to start on revamping your wardrobe is feet first.

But if the thought of stepping out in flip-flops and sandals is a little too deja vu then look to the new shapes to fall head over heels in love with.

From boyish brogue flats to towering clog-style platforms - with the 'halfway heel' in between - there really is a shoe to suit every sole.

Stamp your fashion authority with the styles to be seen in.

Clog capers

Whatever your holiday destination, make sure you're going Dutch with your footwear.

Love them or loathe them, clogs are 'the' trend-led shoe of the summer. Alexa Chung has rarely been spotted without her chunky clogs since being snapped in the must-have heels for the March cover of Vogue.

Thank Chanel for the seventies reincarnation of the wooden sole mules - the fashion house sent models clip-clopping down the runway in every style imaginable, including ornate designs embellished with poppies and corsage clusters.

Opt for traditional mule-styles or try slingbacks for added support.

Try: Office Justa Lotta Love wooden clogs, £60; Next grey stud slingback clogs, £45; F&F at Tesco Signature studded clogs, £28.

Brogue brigade

If you're bored of ballet pumps, brogues are this season's alternative if you love stomping around in flats.

Models lost a few inches off their lofty heights on the catwalks at Paul Smith, Alberta Ferretti and Michael Kors, swapping the customary six-inch platforms for brogues with barely-there heels.

The boyish brogue has become a firm favourite with celebrities, spotted on the likes of flat converts, Sienna Miller, Agyness Deyn and Emma Watson.

Go for vintage-look black, brown or cream styles, or liven up your look with a vibrant splash of colour.

Brogues will instantly give your outfit a super-cool preppy vibe.

Try: Hobbs NW3 Fitzjohn red brogues, £169; Fearne Cotton at Very cream Vienna brogues, £32; Primark metallic brogue jazz pump, £8.

Halfway house

Love added height but hate the feet hangover from sky-high heels? The fashion gods have finally answered your prayers...

Stilettos are still around but the new mid-height heel, or 'halfway heel', is giving them a run for their money in the comfort stakes.

Perfect for taking you from day to night, these practical styles have a chunky, cone-shaped heel that will give you that elusive extra few inches without the "ouch" factor.

Try: Bronx Swell heels, £90; Faith Sissey studded cone heels, £75 (in stores April); New Look cross strap lace-up heels, £12.

Peep show

Bootie aficionados need not have a panic attack about giving up their favourite footwear staple now winter's over and out.

Ankle boots have undergone a summer makeover with softer fabrics and peep-toes - a fashionable form of ventilation for when temperatures rise!

Go for spring-like fabrics such as canvas, suede and slouchy leather in neutral hues.

Best worn with bare legs, the peep-toe bootie is ideal for those who hate flashing their feet but don't forget those all-important manicured toenails.

Try: Russell & Bromley Boho peep toe lace-up boots, £245; ASOS Suede star punch peep toe ankle boots, £55, Dorothy Perkins peep toe buckle ankle boots, £55.

Wedge wonders

Wedges have been bubbling on the fashion back burner for years but this season they're hot, hot, hot in sandal and bootie styles.

Winning brownie points for their versatility you'll find traditional strappy numbers for high summer, or less foot exposing options with cut-outs or open-toes for transitional springtime.

Wedges are another means of raising your height without the agony. Add extra leg lengthening potential by opting for a platform sole.

Try: Office Wait and See orange wedges, £60, La Redoute gold strappy wedges, £25; Moda in Pelle Pinni stud wedges, £70.
