Skaters of all ages and abilities were lucky enough to take to the ice last Friday, December 12, for a masterclass with three-times Dancing on Ice champion Dan Whiston.

Dan will be well known to local audiences as he partnered Bunbury’s Olympic medallist Beth Tweddle to win the 2013 ITV contest and even created a special move which became known at the Tweddle Tip.

He also won the first series while partnering actress Gaynor Faye and took top spot in the fifth series with Emmerdale actress Hayley Tamaddon.

The event took place at the open air MBNA ice rink at Chester Racecourse after a competition run by the festive Winter Wonderland on their Facebook page.

Racecourse marketing manager Rebecca Lawrence said: “We were delighted to welcome such talented feet onto our ice in three-times Dancing on Ice Champion, Dan Whiston, who was the perfect tutor to guide our novice skaters through their paces.

“From the smiles, it was clear everyone enjoyed their skating experience.”

The Chronicle’s Jo Henwood and Sallie Ehlen were lucky to be invited to join the second skating session with their daughters Olivia and Issy respectively.
