Annabel Mount-Kirk has  called herself a  fashion lover since she  was a little girl.

It all started because she  had close relatives who  worked in the fashion industry.

For years Annabel  would watch them, observing the ins and outs  of the business and  dreamed of one day following in their footsteps.

She took her first steps  by studying art and business at Abbey Gate  College before going on to  study management of  fashion and textiles at  Manchester University to  pursue her passion.

By the time she was just  20,  Annabel had secured  her first job, working for  retail giant Peacocks as  an assistant buyer.

It was working in this  tough retail environment  that made Annabel realise  she wanted to open her  own store, and she wanted  to do it in her hometown  of Chester.

“From a young age I’ve  always believed in buying  quality over quantity,” explains Annabel, now 29.

“For example, instead of  buying lots of summer  clothes, why not invest in  pieces that will take you  from summer to winter,  for example layering  pieces,  as we all know  that the British weather  doesn’t bring us much  warmth!”

It was this concept she  had in mind when she  opened The Editeur – a  lingerie and clothing  store, in 2011.

Nestled among Chester’s  city walls, Annabel has  done her best to make the  store unique and to give  her customers a personal  and friendly approach.

The shop offers a mix of  well known brands from  MaxMara and Joseph to  more interesting designers who are just starting  out.

Each brand is carefully  selected by Annabel each  season and is aimed at  women with a classic look  while giving a nod to the  current trends.

“I think every woman  should have a classic  black blazer or jacket, to  pair over dresses and with  skirts or trousers,” says  Annabel.

“You can’t go wrong  with a classic black handbag – our Rebecca Minkoff  collection includes some  great bags that will stand  the test of time.

“And a lightweight  trench coat for wearing to  work is always good to  wear in transitional periods in between the seasons, just as a silk blouse  is great for wearing to  work and could take you  from the office to the bar.”
