Fresh from putting in what has been lauded by league officials as ‘the greatest individual performance in BBL history’, Cheshire Phoenix star Victor Moses is remaining focused on ensuring his side finish the season in a play-off berth.

The 6ft 6ins Nix forward has been a revelation for John Lavery’s men since joining the Northgate Arena-based club back in November.

Moses, who posted a record-breaking 50-point haul against the Plymouth University Raiders in front of a home crowd on Sunday, has helped to fire the Nix to within touching distance of fifth place in the BBL.

The Kentucky-born, Georgetown University graduate is now wanting to see his side put aside their BBL Trophy disappointment and finish the season strongly.

“Our chances (of a top-five finish) are very high,” said the 23-year-old. “Everyone on our team as well as the coaches have a lot of confidence in each other so we believe we can have a strong finish to the season.

“The aim is always to win every  single game that we play.”

Moses arrived in the BBL with a strong pedigree, having led his Georgetown side to their first-ever NAIA Division One title last year.

His former coach at Georgetown, Chris Briggs, had hailed Moses as a player with enormous potential and claimed that he could become ‘the best player in the league’.

His prophecy appears to have come true as Moses, who has picked up three BBL Player of the Month awards in the space of four months this season, is now the hot favourite to pick up the Player of the Year award at the end of the campaign.

In what has been a season of high numbers and impressive performances, Moses’ half-century on Sunday now sees him top the BBL high-scorers list.

Moses, however, is remaining grounded and isn’t looking too far into the future.

“I'm enjoying my time with my team-mates on and off the court,” said Moses, who has been tipped for a big future in the game.

“It's been really nice staying in Cheshire and I've met a lot of nice people.

“I really had no idea what to expect coming into the BBL. I was put in contact with Coach Lavery through my agent and decided to join the club after talking to him.

“I just knew that I was going to try to be the best player and team-mate that I could be while I was here in Cheshire.

“The aim for me personally is to continue to climb the ladder in pro basketball as far as I can.”

Head coach Lavery praised the impact that Moses has had on his side’s season and heralded the big forward’s 50-point performance as ‘one of the best he had ever seen’.

“Credit to Vic, he had a phenomenal offensive game,” said Lavery.

“In the BBL, I think that it was probably the best offensive display I’ve ever seen.

“He has been fantastic for us since he joined us and he’s been a credit to himself and the club.

“He couldn’t have done it without the help of his team-mates. They do such as good job defensively and in getting the ball to Vic that they deserve just as much praise.”
