A team of 22 employees from Community Windpower in Frodsham, raised over £10,000 for Chester charity Save the Family.

The team climbed three mountains within the last 12 months and achieved the final phase of their challenge when they successfully climbed 1,344m to the summit of Ben Nevis.

They previously climbed the highest mountain in England, Scafel Pike, standing at 978m and also the highest mountain in Wales, Mount Snowdon, standing at 1,085m.

Ben Fielding, project manager at Community Windpower Ltd and event organiser, said: “The objective for the event was never for a record breaking time, our primary objective was for all our staff to safely complete the climb as one team. Thankfully, the clouds cleared as we reached the summit and the views from the top were incredible.”

Save the Family’s chief executive, John Church, said: “We’re delighted that Community Windpower have chosen us again as beneficiaries of their fundraising. The whole team have put in such an incredible effort and raised a huge sum of money that will make a significant difference to the charity.

“We have recently welcomed a lot of new families to Cotton Hall Farm, so the money will be put towards supporting them and ensuring they settle in well and have the right support for their needs. We’d like to improve some of our facilities to accommodate more families and this will certainly help us do that."

Community Windpower employees visited the Save the Family centre for a cheque presentation event and to see firsthand where the money they raised will be used and to see how it will make a real difference to people’s lives. Having climbed the highest three mountains in the UK, Community Windpower will take some time to rest before deciding what next year’s challenge will be.
