Students from The Whitby High School in Ellesmere Port joined more than 200 young people, librarians and teachers at Winsford Academy for the announcement of the winner of the 10th Cheshire Schools’ Book Award.

The winning book was One by Sarah Crossan which can be found in the library at the Ellesmere Port school.

Unfortunately, Sarah was unable to attend the event but did send the following message:

“I’m so delighted to have won the Cheshire Schools Book Award and so sad I can’t be there to scream with excitement right now.

“Regional awards mean so very much to me because it’s about introducing books to young readers who might not otherwise get the chance to read them. I’m so glad One has been chosen because it means young people are engaging with poetry.

“This matters to me deeply and I hope that many of you will continue to read and write poetry. Please don’t be afraid of it. It belongs to you.”
