Whitby High School smashed its exam results records.

Students nervously waited to collect their long awaited GCSE results at the Sycamore Drive school.

“But they need not have worried as the results at Whitby High continued to reflect their hard work over previous years,” said the school.

GCSE results for Year 11 students smashed previous records with 94% of students gaining five or more A* - C grades.

All the other indicators used to judge the success of any school also saw considerable improvements with ‘significant gains’ in those students achieving the higher grades.

Headteacher Mr Bryn Heeley said, “I am very proud indeed that the continued hard work of the students at The Whitby High School has seen them achieve fantastic results.

“ 94% has smashed all previous results and together with excellent results in English and mathematics demonstrates the continued focus the school has on raising achievement amongst all its students.

“Well done to all students together with the parents and staff who have supported them throughout their studies”
