Students at the University Church of England Academy in Ellesmere Port are celebrating after yet another year of improving GCSE results.

The academy says there has again been an increase in the number of students achieving 5 or more A*-C passes including English and mathematics- 44.2%, the best ever -and over 70% achieving 5 or more A*-C in all subjects.

The academy describes this as ‘a remarkable achievement during a time of rapid change in the examination system’.

Academy principal Mr Kevin McDermott said:“Our students, with the support from their parents and our staff, are rightly proud of their achievements.

“These results continue to demonstrate an upward trend.

“When you compare them with those of the predecessor schools in 2009, 5A*-C including English and mathematics, 22% and 5A*-C 54% they are fantastic.”
