Pupils from Parklands Community Primary School in Ellesmere Port were prepared for the world of work with a recent careers event.

Children were visited by professionals from a variety of local employers for a careers afternoon to raise aspirations and inform pupils about the array of employment opportunities available to them.

Visitors who met with children to discuss their job and what it entails included a local diver and representatives from the library service, the University of Chester, the armed forces, Cheshire police and Land Rover UK. Children had opportunities to ask questions and find out more from the adults leading presentations.

The teacher at Parklands who organised the event Rebecca Naylor said: “It was wonderful to observe how interested pupils were in the presentations. The visitors were most impressed by range of questions posed by children of all ages in response to the information provided about the array of diverse occupations represented during the afternoon.”

Children are following up this event by finding out more about their own chosen future occupations and using their writing skills to send thank you letters to visitors who supported this event.
