Police have charged a man in connection with an incident which saw a police officer being threatened with a chainsaw in Neston.

The 46-year-old has been charged with assault, affray and possession of an offensive weapon following the occurrence on Park Street last Sunday evening (June 22).

Officers were called out to the scene following reports of a disturbance and arrived to find a man with minor injuries. Another man then threatened the injured man and a police officer, who were both able to move to a place of safety before the man fled the scene.

A thorough search of the area was carried out and a short time later officers located and arrested a man in connection with the incident.

Police are still appealing for a cyclist who was in the area at the time the man fled the scene and also the occupants of a white car who were also in the area around the time of the incident to contact police.

The victim's minor injuries are not thought to have been caused by the chainsaw.
