Residents enjoyed an annual barbecue and evening bat walk in a popular country park.

The event took place in Rivacre Country Park in Ellesmere Port.

The borough council’s countryside ranger team was on hand for crafts and activities for the kids and a barbecue for visitors to bring along their own food to cook.

Later in the evening people explored the park’s woodland on a bat walk led by the rangers, learning more about the fascinating creatures and their habitats whilst they swooped above.

Netherpool ward borough councillor Diane Roberts (Lab), said: “We are really lucky to have a fantastic green space on our doorsteps with Rivacre Country Park and the popular annual BBQ and bat walk is a great way to explore it and meet people.

“Cheshire has a healthy bat population, with up to 11 of the 16 resident British bat species having been recorded as nesting here and they are fascinating creatures of the night which many people know very little about.”

Cllr Roberts encouraged residents to make the most of the evening enjoying the country park at what promised to be a fun event.
