Residents in Blacon have celebrated the arrival of the festive season in style with the switch on of its Christmas lights and an evening of entertainment at The Parade.

Lord Mayor of Chester Bob Rudd pushed the button to light up the community’s first Christmas tree, which was jointly donated by Avenue Services, part of Sanctuary Group and current contractors for The Parade, Rowlinson Construction Ltd.

The crowd was kept entertained throughout the evening with an appearance by Father Christmas on his sleigh, carol singing by pupils from all the schools in Blacon and live music from arts group Interact Wales.

Following the event at The Parade, Avenue Services also organised a lights switch on at Blacon Library with characters from Disney film Frozen.

Sanctuary head of operations (Chester) Dave Soothill, said: “Avenue Services was delighted to support this community event alongside its partners, which is a first for Blacon.

“Having a Christmas tree was a superb suggestion from local councillors and residents from Blacon’s steering group. There was a real festive spirit in the air and we hope all residents enjoyed the entertainment and have a wonderful Christmas.”
