Star students have been rewarded for their dedication and commitment.

The annual awards evening at the University Church of England Academy (UCEA) highlighted the ‘fantastic achievements’ of students from Years 7 to 11 whose families were formally invited to attend.

The evening not only marked outstanding attitudes to learning, achievement and progress but also celebrated special awards for those students who achieved above and beyond the expectations.

These included resilience of strength and character, service to the wider community and peer mentoring.

Head girl Hannah McMurrary and head boy Warren Evans introduced and closed the event which was filled with music from the academy’s acclaimed swing band, talented dance and drama performances and live music.

Special guest speaker company director and high school teacher’s son Nigel Jones, who is also married to a primary school teacher, had strong and positive words about his life experiences and successes which influenced students and parents.

He also spoke highly about the confidence and behaviour of the academy students.
