A new cancer support group has been launched in Ellesmere Port.

The We Can group (We Care and Nurture), which meets  at Wolverham Community Centre on Cheltenham Road, Ellesmere Port, offers a friendly place for people to meet and discuss concerns and gain information about services and alternative remedies

At the first meeting, which took place in the centre’s community garden, people enjoyed flowers on tables and a selection of tea, coffee, juice, sweets, cake and smoothies whilst they shared their stories. There were also fruit and veg basket giveaways for people to take home.

The group is meeting every Thursday between 6pm and 8pm at the community centre and is open to victims of cancer and the bereaved, as well as their family and friends.

The initiative was set up by Rhianna Maclean and her mother, Adele Griffiths who herself has been suffering with cancer since 2006.

They decided to start the group after hearing about local people’s strife concerning lack of information and wanted to share what they had learned including valuable contacts.

For future meetings they have planned healthy living talks, beauty treatments and yoga lessons.

The deputy mayor of Ellesmere Port, Lynne Clare and other councillors and have donated monetary support and they also have information booklets from the Healthy Living Centre.

Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings.

The group says:“Come along and relax in a friendly atmosphere to share your experience, doubts, anxieties and hopes for the future.”

Those who think they can provide a service or support please contact Adele on 07852 399443.
