Cheshire West and Chester Council launches 100 Day Waste Reduction Challenge

CHESHIRE West and Chester Council is inviting residents to sign up to a 100 Day Waste Reduction Challenge.

The initiative challenges residents to have a go at reducing the amount of waste they create by 1kg a month through little actions which, when added together, will have a big impact.

A series of 30 roadshows will hit Cheshire throughout March, which will include hands-on activities where residents can discover how easy it is to hit their 1kg target.

The campaign will kick off with a launch event in the city on Saturday at the Town Hall Square.

There will be fun and interactive games, as well as live cookery and sewing demonstrations.

Dee 106.3 Radio will be broadcasting live from the event, which will run from 10am-4pm.

The campaign aims to help households gain a greater understanding of how much waste they throw away, while at the same time setting them an achievable challenge to reduce it.

An average Cheshire West and Chester household currently throws away 50kg of waste every month.

If every household was to achieve the 1kg target, 1,700 tonnes of waste could be avoided in one year, the equivalent weight of 340 elephants.

Anyone who wants to learn more about how to reduce their waste is invited to the Saturday’s event.

To support the campaign, a dedicated section within the CWaC website has been developed, which can be found at www.cheshirewestandchester .gov.uk/wastechallenge.

This will be launched on February 26 along with roadshow dates and everything else people need to know to rise to the challenge.
