CHESTER: September 18-November 28 - 10-10-10: 50 Years of The Weirdstone of Brisingamen - an exhibition to mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Cheshire author Alan Garner’s celebrated book based in Cheshire’s Alderley Edge featuring archaeology from the area and other objects that inspired the novel at the Grosvenor Museum Exhibition Gallery Two. There is also the first chance to see the portrait of Alan Garner by Andrew Tait, commissioned specially for this exhibition.

CHESTER: September 11-January 9 - Reap and Tillage: The Vikings in Cheshire - an exhibition which explores the Viking heritage of Cheshire, looking at why they came here, how they lived and the evidence they left behind at the Grosvenor Museum Exhibition Gallery Two.

CHESTER: July 24-July 17 2011 - Workwear: Dressed For The Job - this small exhibition looks at both practical clothes and ceremonial uniform, contrasting a labourer’s cotton smock with a footman’s gold-braided livery and a hair stylist’s simple dress with an alderman’s fur-trimmed fown at the Grosvenor Museum Costume Gallery.

CHESTER: July 3-September 12 - Georgian Chester: The City in Art - The appearance of Georgian Chester was transformed between 1714 and 1837 as the medieval gates in the city walls were replaced with new archways, the canal was constructed and The Groves were laid out. Come and enjoy the elegance and grandeur of Chester’s Georgian architecture as depicted in watercolours, drawings and prints at the Grosvenor Museum Exhibition Gallery Two.

CHESTER: June 28-September 30 - When We Were Very Young - photographic exhibition of early childhood in Chester at Chester History & Heritage, St Michael’s Church, Bridge Street Row.

CHESTER: June 25-September 23 - Paintings by Gainsborough, Claude and van Diepenbeeck lent by the Duke of Westminster at the Grosvenor Museum Exhibition Gallery One.

MANCHESTER: Until February 20 - Intuition - the Musgrave Kinley Outsider Art Collection at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Oxford Road. Victor Musgrave and Monika Kinley chose to collect artwork they felt was genuinely original and made by artists outside the mainstream.
