Southport Flower Show Competitions

From garden design to photography, Southport Flower Show has some exciting competitions to stimulate your creativity and challenge your skills.

Our four main competitions prove hugely popular each year, attracting a high standard of entry and interest - from schoolchildren to professional horticulturists alike.

The David Bellamy Design a Garden Competition (Years 5 & 6), now in its 14th year, is open to all primary school children in years 5 and 6 across the North West.

Two winning designs will be chosen and then constructed by a professional garden company in time for this year’s show. The two winners, their families and their teacher will be invited to the show to meet Professor David Bellamy OBE and will be presented with £500 to enhance their school grounds, a £50 gift voucher for themselves.

Closing date is Friday 3rd June

The David Bellamy School garden design competition is sponsored and supported by The West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity as part of its Supporting the Community Scheme.

Southport Flower Show and The Society of Garden Designers have joined forces this year in the Student Garden Design Competition to offer this exciting national competition to launch the career of a budding garden designer.

The winner will get the opportunity to build their garden at this year’s show, a budget of £7000 to build the garden plus a fee of £1000 for personal expenses. The runner up will also get £500.

Entries are welcomed from students studying for a recognised qualification in Garden Design, Horticulture, Landscaping or Landscape architecture OR any student who qualified in 2009/10. Entries may be from individuals or groups for the same prizes.

Closing Date is Monday 9th May 2011

The popular Stefan Buczacki Open Photography Competition has over £1,000 of prize money and encourages photographers of all ages to take a close look at their gardens and produce some remarkable images.

Open to amateurs only, is in three age groups and three categories. Class A (plant portraits), Class B (garden views) and Class C (garden wildlife).
