Soul legend Ruby Turner to perform in Colwyn Bay

SOUL legend Ruby Turner stops off in Colwyn Bay this week.

The singer, who regularly plays at Ronnie Scott’s Club, was awarded the prestigious Gold Badge Award for her contribution to British music.

She’s also provided vocals for Jools Holland’s Rhythm & Blues Orchestra.

Born in Jamaica, Ruby came to the UK with her mum when she was nine.

She said: “My grandfather was a gospel singer, I was told by my father. Sadly I never knew him. But that might explain my love of singing. My brother, who’s three years older, came to visit from the States and saw one of my shows at the Jazz Cafe. He said ‘you’ve got it – but you had it even when you were about five’.

“If I’ve learned one thing in this game, it’s taking charge of your life.”

Ruby Turner will be at Theatr Colwyn in Colwyn Bay on Friday, February 22. Visit theatrcolwyn.co.uk or call 01492 577888 or 872000.
