Commentator Eddie Hemmings to star in Up ‘n’ Under at The Brindley

POPULAR sport commentator Eddie Hemmings is set to star in an award-winning comedy about rugby league at The Brindley.

Centenary Theatre Company, which has been recruiting Halton actors to its ranks for more than 100 years, is staging a production of Up ‘N’ Under.

Organisers said the play is a ‘brilliant comedy’ which is sure to have the audience in stitches.

A spokeswoman said: “Eddie is perfect in his role as a rugby league commentator and is pleased to support the group.”

Eddie said: “As vice president of the brilliant Centenary Theatre Company, it has been my pleasure adding my voice, and years of experience, to this brilliant rugby league-based play!”

The play, a comedy written by John Godber, follows the story of an ex-pro rugby league player, who takes on the challenging Wheatsheaf Arms Rugby team and attempts to lead them to success.

For director, Seb Farrell, the process has not been without its challenges, especially when planning an entire rugby match at the end of the play.

He said: “It has been a pleasure to direct this award-winning play, especially as someone who loves both rugby league and theatre in equal measure!

“It has been a very exciting and rewarding process, staging the rugby match was particularly fun!

Up ‘N’ Under was also made into a popular film, starring Samantha Womack, Gary Olsen, Neil Morrissey and Richard Ridings.

The play is being performed at The Brindley from February 21-25.

Tickets start at £11 for concessions.
