Shavington Village panto returns with Red Riding Hood

Thigh-slapping and audience participation abounds as the annual Shavington Village panto returns.

The production team raised the roof last year with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and they hope this year – their 34th – will be no exception with Red Riding Hood, by Norman Robbins.

Panto publicity officer Elaine Dodd said: “The wolf returns to pursue Red Riding Hood, wearing of course the familiar red cloak, as she goes to visit her grandmother.

“He wants to eat her but will he be afraid to do so in front of the audience?

“Watching over her, thank goodness, is a Fairy who has warned the evil wolf to keep away – but the temptation is too much for this furry fiend, as the audience will see his mischief cause mayhem and much worse.

“There’s lots of humour and comedy too, as the villagers all love Red Riding Hood, while they are in fear of the wolf, but they do their utmost to protect her.

“Will peace ever reign over the village again? Well, you will just have to come along and see what happens in this delightful production.”

Young Megan Iredale will enjoy her first lead role as Red Riding Hood.

The 17-year-old, who lives in Nantwich and attends Malbank Sixth Form, has featured in a number of shows to date, including as Missy in Must See Musicals’ I Have A Dream and the dance captain in the same company’s Cruisin’.

The group were acknowledged in 2008/09 as being in the top four for the North West’s Best Amateur Pantomime, by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.

The show is to be staged at Shavington Leisure Centre on Rope Lane from February 14-18.

Tickets are priced £8 adults and £5 children, to book call the ticket hotline on 01270 567944 or email svfc@btinternet.com.
