Axis Arts Centre in Crewe opens for new season

THE latest season at the Axis Arts Centre at MMU in Crewe opens tomorrow (Thursday) with an unusual piano collaboration.

Second-Handed Blues demonstrates the flair and musicianship of Adam Fairhall and Paul J Rogers.Fairhall is a piano maestro and Rogers a whizz on the laptop, turntable, diddley-bow and other objects.Their music mixes contemporary idioms and techniques with artefacts from the far reaches of jazz history, such as a vocal line from a 1920s vaudeville blues recording, or a riff on the diddley-bow, an archaic blues instrument.A theatre spokeswoman said: “Adam’s highly individual playing ranges from ragtime to free jazz in its frames of reference, and Paul draws on an array of sonic techniques to create a distinct, otherworldly music full of playful connections between eras, idioms and technologies.“Their debut album, Second-Handed Blues, was released on ASC Records in spring 2011 to critical acclaim.”The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8, £5 concessions. To book call the box office on 0161 247 5302 or visitwww.axisartscentre.org.uk.demonstrates the flair and musicianship of Adam Fairhall and Paul J Rogers.
