Runcorn bands CANDIDATE23 and Fireflys prepare for fresh chart assault

TWO Halton bands are gearing up for an exciting few weeks as they aim to reach the very top.

Runcorn-based indie-pop outfit CANDIDATE23 release their new EP Stay Awake on March 12.

Tracks from the release have already been placed on the play list of several mainstream radio stations up and down the country, with the band also set to appear at a number of major festivals in the summer.

Guitarist Alex McIntyre, 17. said: “Stay Awake takes us to the next level.

“We’ve worked solidly on this for four months and I just hope all of our hard work shows – it will be a surprise to everyone who hears it. It’s not what you’d expect from us.”

It will be officially previewed on February 4 at the Studio in Widnes, when they will be playing the full EP for the first time.

Also playing on the night is Defector after 513 of their fans voted for them in a Facebook competition run by CANDIDATE23.

Tickets are available for the launch night by visiting www.candidate23.com

Meanwhile, fellow Runcorn act Fireflys release their long-awaited second album Cathedral For Your Ashes on February 27 on Amazon and iTunes/Canadia Records.
