Chester band aim for the big time

SOME of the UK’s best known rock stars began their musical careers as teenagers, and an upcoming Chester band are hoping to follow in their footsteps.

Teenage four-piece Idle Frets want to make their mark on the Chester music scene with their indie-inspired blend of pop and rock.

The youngsters, three of whom are in the middle of their GCSEs at Chester Catholic High School, have already played gigs at the Cavern Club in Liverpool and various venues in Chester.

The band, which consists of cousins Luke Lewis, 17, Ben Davies and their friends Ferg Reisin and Erin Gibson, all 15, count the Arctic Monkeys, The Smiths and The Kooks as their biggest influences.

“Our aim is to try to get people to like our music, as well as having a good time,” says guitarist Luke.

Originally calling themselves The Cestrians, their unusual name was dreamed up by a band member’s father who thought it sounded a little bit different.

“I do think that Chester doesn’t really have many bands and we’d like to our fanbase to grow even more,” adds Luke.

Idle Frets will be competing in the third heat of the Battle of the Bands at the Liverpool Rocks festival at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on February 18.
