Music Spotlight: Kill The Doctor sign off with farewell gig at The Box, Crewe

It’s the end of the road for one of our brightest young talents on the local music scene.

You don’t realise what you’ve had until it’s gone.

So cherish one last moment with the whirlwind that was Kill The Doctor as they go out in the best possible way.

Having supported the likes of Funeral For A Friend, Dinosaur Pile-Up and recently-deceased Dananananaykroyd in a short career of 18-odd months, the trio have achieved more than many bands out there.

And it’s fully deserved as Max Dunn (lead vocals/guitars), Ryan Marsden (bass/vocals) and Danny Summers (drums/vocals) struck on a winning formula of garage punk, neo-grunge and yob rock – call it what you want along with mental.

A la influences such asPulled Apart By Horses, their live shows have become wild, raw, unforgettable experiences with a special connection glaring between them and a passionate hardcore following.

In salute, The Box sends them off on a well-earned headline slot this Friday.

Summers admits the last 18 months have been more than they ever expected.

“I know a lot of bands say it but we only started the band off as a joke,” he said.

“We had an idea about playing The Box, getting a load of mates down and having a laugh really.

“But we’ve ended up playing festivals and venues across the country.

“We’ve achieved more than we ever thought we would.

“I guess supporting Funeral For A Friend at The Box and getting on BBC Introducing stand out but we’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”

With KTD in the ascendancy, the decision to call it a day has surprised many.

However, Summers says it’s a natural end.

“We all feel it’s run its course,” he added. “We wanted to go out on a high and for us that’s one big gig and a headline slot at The Box.

“We just want to thank everyone for all their support.

“We didn’t expect any of it and we’re just really grateful and really proud of what we’ve been able to do.”

Good friends Swim Into Scarlet provide support in honour along with Just! Don’t Panic and Pollie Maher.

Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are £5.
