Runcorn singer Nicola Roberts eyeing more solo success with Yo-Yo

AS A member of Girls Aloud, the most successful British girl group of the past decade, Runcorn singer Nicola Roberts notched up 20 top-10 singles and three million albums sales.

But this autumn, three years after the release of Girls Aloud’s last album, the former St Chad’s starlet decided to go it alone with her debut record, Cinderella’s Eyes.

And she said it was a record that came straight from the heart.

She said: “I think that when you’re writing an album it like all of the things come from inside you.

“It’s like they come from your emotions or the way you think about certain situations. Because everything is how you see it or what you feel. I think it’s always inevitably going to be perceived as being more personal.”

Nicola, 25, started in Girls Aloud when she was just 16.

She said: “I left school, walked out of the classroom and onto the stage – I suppose like for me to have the support of the other girls for so many years and working together as a team was amazing. But it’s nice to have that 18 months of solid work and my own little journey on that little CD.

“I like to work in a team, so it was important that I felt like everyone I worked with on the record wanted to be on the team.

“I didn’t want to feel like just another one on the conveyor belt. It felt like everyone wanted to be a part of the project and that’s why I think it worked.”

Her new single Yo-Yo is due for release on Sunday.
