ROCK legend Midge Ure is heading to The Brindley for a solo gig in March.
The Scottish star – whose first name is a phonetic reversal of real name Jim – is best remembered as Bob Geldof’s other half in the Band Aid project and also being the second and most well known frontman for Ultravox.
He has crammed several other musical lifetimes into his career with Slik , The Rich Kids, Thin Lizzy and Visage – also famously turning down a chance to join the Sex Pistols.
After members of Ultravox went their separate ways, Ure pursued a solo career which included the international hit If I Was and has scooped a number of top music honours.
In 2005 he reunited with Geldof to organise the Live 8 concerts, with the aim of pressing G8 leaders into taking action to end world poverty.
Later that year he was awarded an OBE for services to music and charity.
He was made a Doctor Of Music by the University of Edinburgh in 2006, and in 2007 he received his third honorary doctorate from the University Of Paisley for his contribution to Scottish culture and charity work.
He is a worldwide ambassador for Save The Children and continues to campaign for Africa.
Tickets for the gig on Friday, March 23, are priced £16 and can be booked by calling the Brindley box office on 0151 907 8360 or visit www.thebrindley.org,uk
