Halton on Screen depicts borough’s fortunes at The Brindley

A SELECTION of films depicting Halton from 1920 until 1961 is being shown at The Brindley.

The films feature events such as the Runcorn Carnival, the royal visit of 1938, the opening of the Silver Jubilee Bridge, the road to Wembley with the Chemics in their bids for Challenge Cup glory in 1950 and 1964, a journey down the Manchester Ship Canal and River Weaver when their banks were a hive of industry, and audiences can also see what Ken Dodd was doing to attract new life and tourism to the area in a hilarious 1970s BBC TV item.

The North West Film Archive at Manchester Metropolitan University has launched Halton On Screen a part of its new programme.

The screening takes place on Friday, February 15 at 7.30pm.

Vision and media’s head of audience development Deborah Parker said: “The North West Film Archive is one of the UK’s finest moving image archives.

“We are delighted to support Halton On Screen, enabling local communities to reconnect with their region’s past.”

The evening’s show will be presented by the Archive’s collections assistant Geoff Senior.

Tickets are available priced £6 from The Brindley Box Office on 0151 907 8360 or online at www.thebrindley.org.uk
