Punk veterans UK Subs return to The Box in Crewe

Punk legends UK Subs return to The Box in Crewe for another dose of anarchy on Saturday.

Led by the indefatigable Charlie Harper, the band has survived and thrived through various line-ups and record companies for over three decades.

One of the most consistently and visibly successful punk bands, they fired out seven consecutive UK Top 30 hits between 1979-81 and established themselves across the globe with a stunning live show.

Touring worldwide for 30 years, the Subs maintain and pioneer the true spirit of punk rock, without the compromise of so many of their contemporaries.

The punk legends continue their constant touring regime, playing to new generations of nations’ disaffected punk youth.

Inspired by The Damned and Sex Pistols, they formed late in 1976 as the ‘United Kingdom Subversives’, soon shortening their name and playing all the London punk holes through ‘77.

Two songs, including their minimalist classic I Live In A Car appeared on the Farewell To The Roxy album, and after a huge selling indie single in 1978 they signed to Gem Records via RCA worldwide.

The hits included Stranglehold, Tomorrow’s Girls, The Zombies, She’s Not There, Warhead, Teenage, Party In Paris and Keep On Running.

Albums Brand New Age and Crash Course both went into the UK top ten.

Support for the Crewe show comes from The Roughneck Riot and Stoke band Senseless.

Tickets are £9 and available from www.theboxcrewe.co.uk, the Royal Hotel in Crewe and from Music Mania in Hanley.

Doors open at 7.30pm.
