IT WAS 1991 when the film The Commitments burst onto our movie screens and into the hearts and souls of music lovers across the world. Now, to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Alan Parker’s film, The Stars From The Commitments will perform three UK shows, including a date at Echo Arena Liverpool on Friday, March 16.
The concert will be a full blown soul extravaganza with songs from the movie and many added extras.
The full line-up consists of: Andrew Strong, Robert Arkins, Angeline Ball, Bronagh Gallagher, Michael Aherne, Felim Gormley, Dave Finnegan, Kenneth McCluskey and Dick Massey.
A few of the members of the band, recognising the impending 20th anniversary, started looking into the possibility of a series of reunion gigs.
Pretty soon a team was coming together including Paul Bushnell who was the music director on the movie and co produced the soundtrack CD with Kevin Killen and Alan Parker.
“We gathered together in Dublin,” said Bushnell, “performed a few songs as a band, then sat down over pints and thrashed it all out between us to see if we could make it work. And we did! So here we are.”
After a sell-out run of dates in Ireland in 2011 to celebrate the 20th anniversary, the band are coming to the UK in 2012 for three dates only –including Echo Arena on March 16.
