A CHEEKY blend of live music, quirky theatricality, and absurd humour is promised at The Brindley when Liverpool theatre collective The Suitcase Ensemble present a spoof tribute to the once famous Edge Hill British Rail brass band.
Look At Us Now, a play with music, comes to the award-winning venue on Wednesday October 19.
The group promises to take the audience on a ‘raucous journey’ through the history of industry and working class music, with more than a few pit-stops along the way to share stories of lost glory, thwarted ambition and childhood humiliation.
A Brindley spokesman said: “This is a highly original piece of theatre devised by an exciting collective of young and emerging theatre makers who describe the show as ‘one part folk club, one part school play’.
“The show’s intimate, home made feel offers a warm and informal theatrical experience but it is also provocative, poignant and hilarious; a great night out and guaranteed to get a debate going in the bar afterwards!”
Director and performer Tessa Buddle said: “Since our last tour, we’ve been locked away in a little room at Edge Hill Railway Station writing songs and poems, making cardboard puppets, learning about the working history of the railways and performing experimental cabaret shows.
“The Edge Hill Brass Band and their exploits around the country inspired us to get back on the road – and look at us now.”
Tickets priced £10 and £8 concessions can be booked on 0151 907 8360 or online at www.thebrindley.org.uk
