Queen musical We Will Rock You returns to the Liverpool Empire

THE Queen and Ben Elton musical We Will Rock You, which visits Liverpool this month, has been crowned the UK’s favourite show.

At the recent Olivier Awards, British theatre’s answer to the Oscars, the long-running musical received the BBC Radio 2 Audience Award, the only category decided entirely by members of the public, who voted via the awards website.

The musical came out top in the category, which saw more than 43,000 votes cast, beating a shortlist including Billy Elliot, Jersey Boys and Les Misérables.

The guitar-thrashing, leather-clad musical, which is based on more than two dozen Queen songs with a script and direction by Ben Elton, has been one of the West End’s biggest attractions since it opened at London’s Dominion Theatre almost nine years ago.

The cast features Noel Sullivan, Ian Reddington and Leon Lopez.
